The main opposition leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has called the recent Europe visit of Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli a failure.
Reminding that he had signed agreement for pension of British Gorkhas during his visit of Britain 17 years ago, he pointed Oli has not been able to sign any agreement this time.
PM Oli claimed that he raised the issue of tripartite agreement for recruiting Gorkha soldiers during his meeting with British counterpart Theresa May, but the joint statement did not mention anything about that.
"How could a PM who has already resigned sign a deal?" Deuba stated and added that Oli went for visit of Britain without understanding the limitations of May who is officiating as acting PM after resignation. "The executive head in France is president who apparently did not grant a meeting," he added.
He also raised the issue of guard of honor for Oli to paint his Europe visit as a failure. "Gorkha soldiers gave guard of honor to him. I had also gone to Britain. I was given guard of honor by British soldiers," Deuba reminded. "British whites apparently did not agree to salute him. There is a limit," he reasoned.
He also accused PM Oli of demeaning him. "PM should be present whenever the main opposition leader speaks elsewhere. But he has always demeaned the opposition here," he claimed.
Deuba spoke at the start of the House meeting on Wednesday while Oli was not present in the House after the fiasco on Tuesday. The House was adjourned on Tuesday after Nepali Congress (NC) lawmakers stopped Oli from speaking demanding that Deuba be allowed to speak first.
He claimed that he had first asked for time to speak in the House on Tuesday. "It was good that PM asked for time after I asked. He could have answered me," he quipped.
He pointed that the opposition should get to speak in parliamentary system and the PM should act instead of speaking. "The House is opposition's across the world but it is opposite here. The opposition is banned from speaking first."
"The opposition speaks first everywhere. I had asked for time first. He tried to speak forcibly. We protested against that," he explained Tuesday's obstruction.
