Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has launched a drainage cleaning campaign to address the recurring waterlogging problem in the Maitighar area during the monsoon season.
The metropolis has started cleaning drains and manholes in coordination with relevant agencies to remove accumulated waste and blockages, which are among the major causes of obstructed water flow.
According to the metropolis, work is currently underway in the Maitighar area to remove waste deposited inside drains, clear blocked manholes, and improve drainage routes to ensure smooth water discharge.
A recently released technical study identified technical flaws in the drainage system, encroachment on natural water flow channels, and waste accumulation in drains as the main causes of waterlogging in Maitighar.
Based on the findings, the metropolis has prioritized drain cleaning as an immediate measure to address the problem.
