Student organizations staged a protest at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu on Friday.
The demonstration was held in protest against the government following the death of 25-year-old Ganesh Nepali of Mugu district, who died after setting himself on fire.
A brief scuffle broke out between the protesters and police after the demonstrators attempted to march from Maitighar.
Police tried to stop the protesters to keep the situation under control. Although there was some pushing and shoving, the situation returned to normal shortly afterward.
Nepali set himself on fire on Thursday outside the Department of Passports in Tripureshwar after pouring petrol over himself.
A video has since emerged showing a dispute between Nepali and Kathmandu Metropolitan Police over a wheel lock placed on his motorcycle.
The footage shows municipal police applying the wheel lock while Nepali was still seated on the motorcycle.
After municipal authorities attempted to load the motorcycle onto a vehicle, Nepali poured petrol over himself and set himself on fire.
He was taken to Bir Hospital in critical condition.
Although the government had been preparing to fly him to India for advanced treatment, he succumbed to burn injuries on Friday morning.
