A protest has been held in Kathmandu demanding action against the killer in the shooting death of Sub-Engineer Pramod Kumar Yadav, who was working at the Physical Infrastructure Development Office in Malangawa, Sarlahi.
On Tuesday, demonstrators gathered at Maitighar Mandala demanding the immediate arrest and legal action against Yadav’s killer.
The demonstrators chanted slogans accusing the government of remaining silent while the perpetrator roams freely.
Thirty-six-year-old Yadav, a permanent resident of Baisakha in Sukhipur Municipality-6, Siraha, was shot by an unidentified group around 8 p.m. on February 15 . He had been called outside his rented room in Devi Tole, Malangawa Municipality-10, before being shot.
Earlier that day, Yadav had returned to Malangawa after completing his father’s funeral rites.
According to Sarlahi’s Superintendent of Police Yogendra Kumar Khadka, Yadav was shot shortly after returning home. Police said that the incident is under investigation.
According to his wife, Poonam Yadav, the shooter arrived on a motorcycle and called Yadav outside before opening fire. He was shot in the left side of his chest.
Police recovered a spent bullet casing from the scene. Based on preliminary investigation, a small firearm (pistol) was found to have been used in the attack, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Saroj Rai.
Yadav was immediately rescued by police and taken to the provincial hospital in Malangawa on Sunday night, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Yadav had been living in a rented room in Malangawa-10 with his wife and two-year-old daughter.
