Journalists protested against the ban on social media platforms in Kathmandu on Sunday.
Former presidents, office-bearers, and central committee members of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) gathered at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu and staged a protest, stating that the government has banned social media platforms under the pretext of them not being registered in Nepal.
The protesting journalists held placards displaying various messages, including “No Ban,” “Freedom of expression is our right,” and “Let us speak.”
The government has blocked unregistered social media platforms since Thursday, citing the implementation of a mandamus issued by the Supreme Court and a Cabinet decision.
The journalists have pressured the government, asserting that the ban on social media platforms has seriously undermined press freedom, freedom of expression, and citizens' rights in Nepal.
