A protest was held in Kathmandu on Friday against the Surkhet High Court’s decision to overturn the charge of caste-based discrimination in the Soti incident.
Victims’ families and activists took part in the demonstration held at Maitighar in Kathmandu on Friday afternoon. They demanded the dismissal of Judges Som Kanta Mainali and Matrika Prasad Bhandari.
On April 29, a bench of Judges Mainali and Bhandari upheld the life imprisonment sentence handed down by the Rukum West District Court to 23 defendants for murder in the incident, but overturned the ruling on caste-based discrimination.
The families of Navaraj BK and other youths killed in the Soti incident will also begin a sit-in at Maitighar from Friday.
