Indian Army chief General Dhiraj Seth has arrived in Nepal.
He landed at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on Sunday afternoon.
According to Nepal Army spokesperson and Brigadier General Raja Ram Basnet, Seth is on a four-day visit to Nepal.
Basnet said that President Ram Chandra Paudel is scheduled to confer the honorary rank of general of the Nepal Army on Seth at Sheetal Niwas on Monday.
Nepal and India share a tradition dating back to 1950 of conferring the honorary rank of general to each other's army chiefs.
Seth was appointed the 31st chief of the Indian Army on June 30.
He is also expected to meet Prime Minister and Defense Minister Balendra Shah during his vist.
Basnet said that a request for a meeting had been sent, but a response had not yet been received.
“We have sent a letter requesting a meeting with the prime minister. We have not received a response yet,” he said.
Prime Minister Shah’s press and investigation expert, Dipa Dahal, also said that she had not yet received information about the proposed meeting.
Seth is scheduled to return to India on Wednesday.
