Indian Army chief General Dhiraj Seth is set to visit Nepal.
The Nepal Army said that he is scheduled to arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu at around 4 p.m. on Sunday.
According to Nepal Army spokesperson and Brigadier General Raja Ram Basnet, Seth is visiting Kathmandu for a four-day trip.
On Monday, General Seth is scheduled to receive the honorary rank of general of the Nepal Army from President Ram Chandra Paudel at Sheetal Niwas, spokesperson Basnet said.
Nepal and India have maintained a tradition since 1950 of conferring the honorary rank of general on each other’s army chiefs.
Seth was appointed as India’s 31st chief of army son June 30.
He is also expected to meet Prime Minister and Defense Minister Balendra Shah.
Basnet said that a request for a meeting had been sent, but a response had not yet been received.
“We have sent a letter requesting a meeting with the prime minister. We have not received a response yet,” he said.
Prime Minister Shah’s press and investigation expert, Dipa Dahal, also said that she had not yet received information about the proposed meeting.
Seth is scheduled to return to India on Wednesday.
