Former king Gyanendra Shah arrived in Kathmandu from Jhapa on Friday.
A significant number of supporters were gathered at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) premises to welcome him upon his return.
The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), the Rastra, Rastriyata, Dharma, Sanskriti Tatha Nagarik Bachau Maha Abhiyan led by Durga Prasai, and other pro-monarchy groups had called on supporters to be present at the airport to welcome the former monarch.
As the number of supporters swelled within the airport vicinity, security was tightened to maintain order.
The former king has been increasingly active in recent months, traveling across various districts of the country to participate in religious and social events.
