The Nepal Students' Union (NSU), a sister organization of the Nepali Congress, held a demonstration on Monday demanding its 12th general convention.
The protest took place on Monday afternoon in front of the party's central office in Sanepa.
A meeting of the Nepali Congress central committee is scheduled to begin in Sanepa at 1 p.m. on Monday. The party president, office-bearers, and central committee members are participating in the meeting.
Students affiliated to the NSU staged the protest to pressure the party’s president, office-bearers, and central committee to hold the 12th general convention of the NSU.
The NSU’s general convention has not been held for a long time, while the term of its ad-hoc committee has been repeatedly extended. The agenda of the Nepali Congress central committee meeting also includes discussions regarding sister organizations that have failed to hold their conventions.
The Nepali Congress has tried to hold conventions of its sister organizations by extending the tenures of their existing ad-hoc committees. However, dissatisfied students have been protesting, arguing that the term of the ad-hoc committee has been extended repeatedly.
