The disgruntled faction of the Nepal Tarun Dal, a sister organization of the Nepali Congress, has staged a protest demanding the formation of a new ad-hoc committee.
Citing the inability of the current Tarun Dal leadership under Bidwan Gurung to hold a general convention, members of the disgruntled faction protested near the party’s central office in Sanepa of Lalitpur on Friday afternoon, demanding a new ad hoc committee.
It has been nearly 10 years since the Tarun Dal last held its general convention.
The Nepali Congress has failed to ensure regular conventions of sister organizations including Tarun Dal, Nepal Students' Union, and Nepal Women's Association, instead repeatedly forming ad-hoc committees.
The terms of these sister organizations’ ad hoc committees ended in mid-April. However, party President Sher Bahadur Deuba, in a recent office-bearers' meeting, proposed continuing with the current leadership rather than forming new ad-hoc committees.
Tarun Dal members dissatisfied with the decision staged the protest on Friday.
