Transmission of Indian news channels has been stopped in Nepal from Thursday evening.
Vice-chairman of Max TV Dhruba Sharma told Setopati that channel distributors have spontaneously stopped transmission of Indian news channels that have been disseminating baseless propaganda about Chinese interference in Nepal.
"We operators have discussed and stopped transmission of Indian news channels that are attacking our sovereignty," Sharma said. "The government or any body has not instructed us or put pressure on us to stop transmission."
He revealed that around eight to nine operators including Max and Dish Home have blocked transmission of Indian news channels. Max has stopped around 20 Indian channels. He clarified that transmission of entertainment and sports channels, however, continues.
The Indian media has been presenting baseless and exaggerated reports about rising Chinese influence in Nepal and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli after the government issued a new map including Kalapani, Lipu Lekh and Limpiyadhura encroached by India. It has been openly calling for Indian intervention to oust Oli.
The Indian news channels have stooped too low even by their usual standard and claimed that Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi has 'honeytrapped' Oli.
