Continuous rainfall has triggered landslides at 10 locations along the Malekhu-Mugling section of the Prithvi Highway, disrupting traffic.
At some locations, sections of the road have also subsided, cracked, and collapsed.
According to the Nagdhunga-Mugling Road Project (Western Section), inspections found landslides and road damage at Sheetal Bazar, Gomati Khola, Krishna Bhir, Jyamire Ghat-Chauki Bhir, Hugdi Khola-Jawang Khola, Phisling, Chumlingtar, Dharapani, Ghopte Bhir, and Simaldhara.
At Krishna Bhir, a landslide carrying mud and debris from above has completely blocked both lanes of the highway. The lower section of the road remains intact, while the high-risk section has been covered with plastic sheeting.
The road has also been completely blocked in both directions at Jyamire Ghat-Chauki Bhir, Ghopte Bhir, and Simaldhara due to landslides.
In the Phisling area, more than 200 meters of road at three locations has been buried by landslides carrying large rocks, mud, and trees. At one section, around 30 meters of half the roadway has cracked and sunk.
At Dharapani, around 50 meters of half the roadway has collapsed.
Although one-way traffic is operating at some locations, additional risks remain due to continued rainfall.
Authorities are preparing to deploy the necessary machinery and equipment to clear the affected sections once the rain stops.
However, the Malekhu-Mugling section is expected to remain completely blocked on Sunday, and travelers have been urged to avoid the route.
