Amid continuous rainfall and concerns over potential risks, vehicles leaving the Kathmandu Valley have been stopped at Nagdhunga.
All vehicles, including passenger buses, cargo trucks, and motorcycles, have been halted in the Nagdhunga area since 8 p.m. Thursday.
Landslides and road subsidence have been reported at several points along the Prithvi Highway, including Krishna Bhir and Dharapani near Kurintar. Efforts are underway to clear the landslides.
The District Administration Offices of Dhading and Chitwan have issued notices urging motorists not to operate vehicles on the highway.
Authorities said that the vehicles were stopped as a precautionary safety measure given the risk of landslides, falling rocks, and road blockages caused by the rainfall.
Vehicles heading from the Kathmandu Valley toward Dhading, Chitwan, Pokhara, Gorkha, and other districts via the Nagdhunga-Naubise road section have been stopped at Nagdhunga. Long-distance passenger buses and cargo vehicles are also among those being held, affecting passengers and drivers.
Authorities said that vehicles will be allowed to proceed only after assessing the risk, as continuous rainfall could trigger landslides and cause mud and debris to flow onto various sections of the road. Once road and weather conditions improve, security agencies and other authorities plan to gradually release vehicles toward their destinations.
Passengers have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel and to check road conditions before setting out on long-distance journeys. They have also been asked to remain patient as rainfall could lead to increased traffic congestion along the Nagdhunga-Naubise road section.
