Body of Pur Bahadur Gurung, who died in avalanche on Broad Peak, brought to Kathmandu (Pictures)

The body of record-holding mountaineer Pur Bahadur Gurung (Yukta) has been brought back to Nepal.

Gurung died in an avalanche while climbing Broad Peak in Pakistan. His body was flown to Kathmandu on Thursday.

His mortal remains will be kept for a short period at the office of the Nepal Mountaineering Association in Nagpokhari, where family members, fellow climbers, and well-wishers will pay their final respects.

Following the tribute ceremony at the association, his body will be taken to his residence. According to his family, his last rites will be performed at Swayambhu on Friday in accordance with religious traditions.

Gurung was one of Nepal's experienced mountaineers and high-altitude guides.

Ten Nepali and foreign climbers were killed in the avalanche on Pakistan's 8,047-meter Broad Peak last Thursday.

Among those who died in the avalanche was world-renowned Nepali climber Nirmal "Nims Dai" Purja.
