The Central Zoo in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur, has reopened after four weeks.
The zoo, which had remained closed since June 19 following the spread of bird flu, reopened on Friday.
Ganesh Koirala, the zoo’s program officer and information officer, said that the zoo was reopened on the recommendation of the Department of Livestock Services, the Central Laboratory and other relevant agencies after disinfection, sample testing, and monitoring were completed, with environmental samples from the zoo also testing negative.
However, biosecurity measures will continue to be implemented, Koirala said.
The zoo administration has urged visitors not to bring food from outside, not to feed the animals, and not to create unnecessary crowds around sensitive enclosures.
Although the zoo reopened after four weeks, visitor turnout appeared to be relatively low.
