The Mukkumlung Tansep Chumbho and Mukkumlung Protection Inter-party Struggle Committee have announced a series of protest programs, demanding the immediate cancellation of the cable car construction in the Mukkumlung area (Pathibhara) in Taplejung district.
Issuing a press statement on Wednesday, the committee alleged that the cable car project is encroaching upon Mukkumlung through illegal deforestation, fraudulent land transactions, corruption, and the use of forged documents.
The committee said that it was forced to launch an agitation as the construction work has continued despite ongoing talks, dialogue, and discussions with the government and official directives to halt the project.
According to the announced schedule, press conferences will be held on May 13 in Phungling, Taplejung, and Maitighar Mandala, Kathmandu. On May 19, discussions and interactions will be held with various political parties. On May 21, a memorandum will be submitted to the prime minister through the chief district officer (CDO).
The protest programs also include an interaction with various organizations on May 23, a corner meeting with black flags on May 25, a warning rally and protest demonstration in Phungling Bazaar on May 30, and protest with tree plantation in the Mukkumlung area on May 31.
The committee has called upon the general public to participate in the movement, demanding a complete halt to all works related to the cable car construction and the cancellation of the project following a fact-finding investigation.
