Heritage conservation activists have demanded the immediate demolition of the Chhaya Devi Complex in Thamel, alleging that it was built by destroying the historic public pond, Kamal Pokhari.
Led by Kabir Dangol, chairperson of Heritage Conservation Society Nepal, activists staged a protest at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu on Thursday.
The protesters demanded the removal of structures built by destroying public heritage, the conservation of the historical pond, and the restoration of its original form.
They claimed that since Kamal Pokhari is public property, the structures built by encroaching upon it are illegal.
During the protest, participants chanted slogans such as "Save heritage" and "Protect public ponds."
