Police fired tear gas after the situation at KIST Hospital turned tense on Monday.
Following the death of a pregnant woman, a crowd including her relatives gathered and vandalized the hospital.
As the crowd grew larger and became uncontrollable, police used batons and tear gas, according to Superintendent of Police Chakra Raj Joshi of the District Police Range.
SP Joshi said that tear gas was fired to disperse the crowd gathered along the riverbank outside the hospital.
"After nearly 250 people gathered and began vandalizing the hospital, we used batons and tear gas to disperse the crowd," SP Joshi said.
He added that the crowd scattered after the tear gas was fired, with people fleeing some distance away.
SP Joshi said that around 200 police personnel were deployed after the situation at the hospital turned tense.
After the pregnant woman from Khotang died, her relatives vandalized the hospital.
They began gathering a crowd and protesting, claiming that the woman had died due to the hospital's negligence. The woman died on October 24.
A hospital staff member said that talks regarding the matter were ongoing with the deceased's relatives at the hospital itself.
