The Nagdhunga–Sisne Khola tunnel road is set to be operational before Dashain.
Considering the expected surge in vehicle traffic during the festive season, the Department of Roads (DoR) has coordinated with the construction company to bring the tunnel road into operation ahead of Dashain.
Installation of lights and painting work has been completed in the tunnel and the flyover at Balambu that connects the tunnel to the Tribhuvan Highway. The DoR has said that the tunnel road can be used free of charge during the festive season.
Earlier, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Kulman Ghising instructed authorities to make arrangements to allow public passenger vehicles heading out of Kathmandu to use the tunnel during Dashain.
Minister Ghising issued the directive during a meeting with the Department of Transport Management, security agencies, transport entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders at Singha Durbar on Saturday.
During the meeting, the minister also directed the DoR to operate a control room with a focal person for round-the-clock monitoring of road conditions across the country, necessary coordination and management.
Likewise, Minister Ghising said that the meeting decided to request the Ministry of Home Affairs to tighten security at Kathmandu’s New Bus Park and various highways across the country by increasing police patrols and deploying additional police personnel.
