Sugarcane farmers continued their sit-in at Maitighar in Kathmandu for the fourth day on Wednesday, demanding the payment of last year's subsidy.
They are demanding the subsidy payment for the fiscal year 2024-25 at the rate of 70 rupees per quintal.
Sugarcane farmers from 13 districts have been staging a sit-in at Maitighar for the past four days as part of protest led by the Sugarcane Producers Federation.
Expressing solidarity with the farmers' demands, leaders from various political parties, including the ruling Nepali Congress, the main opposition party CPN (Maoist Center), and Madhes-based parties, visited Maitighar on Wednesday.
Leaders including NP Saud from the Nepali Congress, Giriraj Mani Pokharel and Bina Magar from the (Maoist Center), and others expressed solidarity with the sugarcane farmers' protest.
