A government team has met Tirtharaj Bhattarai, the mayor of Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality in Khotang, who is on a fast-unto-death at Maitighar in Kathmandu.
On Wednesday, a government team including Narayan Prasad Mainali, spokesperson for the Ministry of Urban Development, and Machcha Kaji Maharjan, director general of the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, met Bhattarai at Maitighar.
“It seems the ministry sent them to check on the situation. They inquired about my demands and returned,” Bhattarai said. “If they officially invite us for discussions and address our demands, we are ready to reach an agreement.”
Bhattarai came to Kathmandu from Diktel and began a satyagraha on July 27 with a seven-point demand. As government authorities did not respond for three days, he began a fast-unto-death on Wednesday.
According to the ministry’s spokesperson, Mainali, discussions were held regarding the mayor’s demands and a decision will be made after detailed deliberations.
