Police and teachers were involved in a clash during the ongoing teachers’ protest in Kathmandu on Sunday.
The clash broke out after police tried to stop the protesting teachers, who were marching toward New Baneshwar from Maitighar.
According to Superintendent of Police Apil Raj Bohara at the District Police Range, Kathmandu, police used water cannons after the protesting teachers tried to break through barricades.
Teachers also pelted stones at police personnel. Police have detained one person in connection with the incident.
“There was a brief clash after they tried to breach the barricades. Police also used water cannons,” SP Bohara said.
Teachers from across the country have been staging protests in Kathmandu every day since April 2. They have demanded that the government immediately implement previous agreements reached with them and issue the School Education Act.
