Mata Tirtha Aunsi is being observed across the country on Sunday.
Also known as Aamako Mukh Herne Din (Mother's Day) in Nepali, the festival is celebrated every year on the new moon day in the month of Baisakh according to the Hindu lunar calendar to express devotion and respect toward mothers.
On this day, people bathe and purify themselves in the morning. They then offer new clothes and delicacies to their mothers and seek their blessings.
Those who have lost their mothers perform their shraddha in their memory. According to scriptures, doing so liberates one from the debt owed to their mother.
On Mata Tirtha Aunsi, a fair is held in memory of deceased mothers at Matatirtha Kunda in Chandragiri Municipality-6.
Those who have lost their mothers bathe in the sacred pond and worship and offer prayers to Harihar (Bishnu and Shiva).
