Kathmandu, March 25

Arjun Narsingh KC of the Nepali Congress has been sworn in as the eldest member of the newly-elected House of Representatives.

President Ram Chandra Paudel administered the oath to the 78-year-old KC at Sheetal Niwas on Wednesday.

KC was elected as a lawmaker under the proportional representation (PR) system.

As the senior-most member, KC will now administer the oath to other newly-elected members of the House of Representatives.

The swearing-in ceremony for the new lawmakers is scheduled for Thursday.

Until a speaker of the House is elected, KC will preside over House meetings as the acting chair.
