Rachana Khatiwada, who became a proportional representation lawmaker from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), became emotional during an orientation workshop organized by the party on Tuesday.
She is the mother of Rasik Khatiwada, a martyr of the Gen Z movement.
After Rasik lost his life during the Gen Z-led protest on September 8 last year, Rachana had been raising her voice on the streets, demanding justice for the martyrs. The RSP had included her in its proportional representation list under the Khas Arya cluster.
Rachana attended the orientation workshop for newly-elected lawmakers that began on Tuesday at the Royal Tulip Hotel in Gwarko, Lalitpur, where she appeared emotional at the start of the event.
Rachana, a homemaker, entered politics through the RSP as she continued her struggle for justice on the streets after her son’s death.
