The CPN-UML has announced the formation of the National Volunteer Force.
The announcement was made on Friday during an event held at Karki Banquet in Maitighar, Kathmandu.
UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and other leaders officially declared the formation of the Force's central command by waving its flag.
Before the announcement, UML held a march in the Baber Mahal area.
Speaking at the event, UML Chairman Oli said that the party’s volunteer force has been formed not against anyone, but against violence and anarchy.
He said that the volunteer force had to be created because the state apparatus alone has not been able to protect citizens, property, industrial establishments, or media houses.
“If anyone tries to disturb the peace, we must stop them. If someone tries to impose a demonic reign of arson and vandalism, this Force will stop it,” Oli said. “The Force will work during natural disasters and in solving people’s problems.”
Oli clarified that the Force is not intended to harm anyone. He said that it will protect not only the UML but also those who disagree with the UML.
Oli accused fake groups of operating in the name of Gen Z and causing destruction. He claimed that volunteers mobilized on September 8 to distribute water turned to vandalism and arson on September 9.
“The Force we have formed will not engage in such anarchic activities. It is not run with money from anywhere,” Oli said. “It will work for peace and political stability in the country.”
Prime Minister Sushila Karki has been warning that if the current government fails, the country will face an even bigger revolt, said Oli, objecting to the remarks.
“Is it your plan or your dream to unleash further destruction in the country?” Oli questioned. “If it is your plan, it will not be allowed to happen. If it is your dream, stop having such destructive dreams.”
