A funeral procession of those killed in police firing during the Gen Z protests on September 8 was held on Tuesday.
The bodies were handed over to the families of the deceased after postmortems at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu.
The funeral procession was held from Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital to Pashupati Aryaghat, where the last rites of the deceased were performed.
Energy Minister Kulman Ghising and Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal also participated in the procession. They draped the national flag over the bodies and paid their final tributes to the deceased.
During the procession, the relatives of the deceased appeared overwhelmed with grief. Those who joined the procession were also visibly emotional.
A Cabinet meeting held on Monday decided to declare those killed in the Gen Z protests as martyrs, conduct their last rites with national honors, and provide relief of 1.5 million rupees each, including expenses, to the families of the deceased.
A national day of mourning was declared for September 17, with a public holiday announced.
The funeral procession on Tuesday included the bodies of Anish Parajuli, Prabin Kulung, Santosh Bishwakarma, Bijay Chaudhary, Dipesh Sunuwar, and other deceased.
