Finance Minister Rameshore Khanal has assumed office.
After taking the oath on Monday, Minister Khanal reached Singha Durbar to assume his duties.
On September 9, protestors set fire to Singha Durbar.
They also set fire to the Finance Ministry building. However, the ministry’s building has not sustained significant damage.
Although the front part of the building was damaged, the ministry's working chambers remain intact.
Upon assuming office, Minister Khanal decided to halt the implementation of unplanned and non-prioritized small-scale projects.
He also said that the recommendations of the High-Level Economic Reform Recommendation Commission would be implemented. The commission was formed under his chairmanship some time ago.
As the commission’s chairman, Khanal had submitted a 447-page report to the KP Oli government. The report provided concrete suggestions on the weaknesses of the economy, the causes of the problems, immediate actions needed, and long-term solutions.
Despite taking charge as finance minister, Khanal has said that he will not accept a salary, vehicle, or minister’s quarters during this period.
Khanal has been ranked top among the three ministers appointed by the government.
Finance Minister Khanal is a former finance secretary.
