Republic Day is being celebrated across the country on Thursday with various events.

In Kathmandu, the government organized a special ceremony at Tundikhel in Kathmandu to mark the day. President Ram Chandra Paudel, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, and other dignitaries attended the Republic Day celebrations held at the Army Pavilion at Tundikhel.

Republic Day is celebrated every year on Jestha 15 according to the Nepali calendar to commemorate the declaration of Nepal as a republic.

On Jestha 15, 2065 BS (May 28, 2008), the first meeting of the popularly elected Constituent Assembly officially declared Nepal a federal democratic republic, ending the 240-year reign of the Shah dynasty.
