Nagarik Unmukti Party workers present at the Nepal Academy in Kamaladi of Kathmandu chanted slogans in protest after the party’s patron Resham Chaudhary was arrested from the venue on Wednesday.
The NUP and the Janamat Party, led by CK Raut, were set to announce their unification on Wednesday. Workers and leaders of both parties had gathered at the Nepal Academy for the event.
However, a team from the District Police Range, Kathmandu, arrested Chaudhary from the Nepal Academy premises before the unification event could begin. NUP workers then began protesting against his arrest chanting slogans.
Following Chaudhary’s arrest, the NUP-Janamat unification has been postponed for the time being.
