Deputy parliamentary party leader of the ruling CPN Subas Chandra Nembang has handed over videos about corruption by Raj Narayan Pathak, who resigned from Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) commissioner after corruption allegations, to the anti-graft body on Thursday.
CIAA Chief Commissioner Naveen Ghimire had called Nembang requesting him to send the video files. "I have handed over the videos we had collected to impeach Pathak to investigating officer of CIAA," Nembang told Setopati. "They came to the Singha Durbar and took two video files."
The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) on Monday had told the CIAA that it can investigate Pathak. The constitutional anti-graft body earlier on the day had sought the opinion of the OAG asking whether it can conduct investigation on the commissioner of a constitutional body.
Nepalkhabar news portal had published a news report about a video of Pathak taking bribe from promoter of Nepal Engineering College located at Changu Narayan, Bhaktapur on February 13.
Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli, CIAA Chief Commissioner Navin Kumar Ghimire, deputy parliamentary party leader of the ruling CPN Subas Chandra Nembang and Attorney General Agni Kharel had reportedly watched the videos four months ago but they sat on the smoking gun for four months and did not initiate any action against him.
CPN started preparations for registering impeachment motion on February 14 once the news report was published. Pathak resigned to the president the next day after news reports about impeachment were published.
